Solving the Rubik's Cube is more than just putting all 26 pieces in the correct position; it is a process that develops resilience, determination, and problem-solving skills in the solver.
At the heart of speedcubing are competitions: not just with others, but also yourself. The desire to complete the cube faster and more efficiently than you have previously done is what drives the passion. Competitions are also places where cubers can thrive, socialising with other cubers.
Cubing East Auckland founder, Richard Tao, is a passionate speedcuber who has been cubing for 6 years, most recently placing 26th at the 2025 World Championships.
Our mission is to grow the local cubing community through the next generation.
Since our founding in 2025, we have...
... over the 7 local schools covered by our Cube Clubs;
more to come with 3 more school Cube Clubs starting 2026.
... and developing more advanced cubers with our expert coaching
With the Cubing East Auckland Summer Open 2025 attracting 15 competitors, most of whom were novices taught the culture and art of cubing through
Cubing East Auckland's Cube Clubs.
Our members also participate in Official WCA competitions like the
New Zealand Nationals.
Cubing East Auckland is run by a group of high school students who are passionate about speedcubing. We aim to promote the activity to the next generation by organising cube clubs at local schools.
